After the Values and Ethics session it got me thinking about my placement in a different way, instead of thinking of it as just an internship that I was using to make my CV look better and gaining the necessary skills to get a better job, but I started thinking about how the policies and principles align with my own.
After have a deep ponder and writing down what first came to mind the short answer is: yes, their principles align with my own.
The long answer, well we have to start by looking at Renee Materials as a whole. Its a small company and they want to sell materials that would have otherwise gone to waste, projecting an image of sustainability and stewardship. There’s this cute and friendly atmosphere they try to create for customers or potential suppliers. I can definitely feel that within the company, they are all helping each other and I as an individual have the urge to help wherever I can because I can see the potential of this business and the love that has already gone into it to make it run as smoothly as possible. What they are projecting truly comes from a place of ambition and strive to do their best at helping the planet in whatever way they can.

One of my tasks was updating the impact sheets they were going to send out to their suppliers, their achievement being 18.9t of material saved from going into landfill! For quite a new company that is an amazing feat.
I was tasked to add in a section of how overall the company that has given materials to Renee have saved by doing so. That being a section on how much they saved that quarter and how much Renee has saved in total. We brainstormed some ideas for how we can show both amount saved and c02 saved, there was maybe the idea of a liner graph but we decided that was too complicated for the long run, so we came up with a simpler idea of doing a progress bar for the company so they can see what individual goal they have and how far they have come in achieving it. As well as that I had an input into redesigning the impact sheet to closer reflect the new redesign of the Renee website.
This whole process reflected my values of showing companies and clients how much good they have done to encourage further cooperation with Renee to work on sustainability together. They had a beautiful slogan at the end of the impact sheet “We are Renee. We are Reuse.” that perfectly describes what kind of a company I would find pride in working for. What they are projecting truly comes from a place of ambition and strive to do their best at helping the planet in whatever way they can.
So to repeat myself yes Renee Materials’ policies and principles heavily coincide with my own.
